Linocut on Japan paper, 20.2 x 10 cm (plate), 43.5x 32.5 cm (sheet). Signed and dedicated „Handabzug für Irene zum 28.VI.1972/ Augustin Tschinkel”. This proof („printed by hand”) was probably made in the context of the edition of the portfolio „Aktive Graphik 1927-1937“ of the Werner Kunze Gallery, Berlin 1972.
Born in Prague, Augustin Tschinkel came to Cologne in 1928 and joined the „Cologne Progressives” around Franz Seiwert, whom he already knew from his linocuts published in the magazine „Die Aktion”. In 1929 he followed Gerd Arntz to Vienna to work on the Austrian „Gesellschafts- und Wirtschaftsmuseum“ founded by Otto Neurath. Tschinkel returned to Czechoslovakia in the early 1930s.
