Kurt Scheele's work was exhibited and mocked together with the works of many other German expressionists at the infamous Munich exhibition "Entartete Kunst" organised by the Nazis in 1937. Scheele took a stance against National Socialism and fascism as early as 1933 when the Nazis came to power in Germany. Scheele was banned from his profession in 1939 and died 1944 at the age of 39 in Russian captivity.
