This catalogue raisonné on the paintings by the artist from Granada, Manuel Rivera, is the fruit of years of meticulous, complex research work by the project manager, Alfonso de la Torre. It discusses the artist's creative origins and early training at the School of Arts and Crafts, through to his departure to Madrid in the mid-nineteen fifties. It also analyses his period as a mural painter linked to the Instituto de Colonización, also in the fifties. In 1957, the 'abstract' Rivera, the artist who had just discovered wire mesh, participated in the first exhibition by the “El Paso” group at the Buchholz gallery in Madrid.
