Hans and his brother Ernst Neumann were members of the Munich Secession and made illustrations for the Art Nouveau journal "Jugend". In their handprinted color woodcuts they show themselves influenced by Japanese woodcut technique and in their poster-like subjects they anticipated "Neue Sachlichkeit", a style which became only fashionable in the 20s.
