ONE OF ONLY TEN SIGNED IMPRESSIONS OF THE SILKSCREEN POSTER EXECUTED BY WILLIAM KENTRIDGE FOR HIS FIRST EXHIBITION.
In 1979 William Kentridge executed the "Pit" monotypes, marking the beginning of his career as a professional artist. That autumn, the Market Theatre Gallery gave him his first exhibition, and Kentridge created this poster, using imagery from his monotypes.
Few people guessed that Kentridge would have a brilliant future as an artist, and thus few impressions of this poster survive, fewer still in perfect condition.
In perfect condition.
This print comes from the collection of one of the earliest collectors of Kentridge's work, who recognized the artist's importance long before he became famous.
