L'opera Des Gueux The Beggers Opera plate VII by Arbit Blatas
Born in Lithuania in 1908, Arbit Blatas was a painter, sculptor, print maker and stage designer. In 1928 he joined the avant-guarde " School of Paris" along with Picasso, Matisse, Brague, Vlaminck, Utrillo and Soutine. In 1934 he was exhibiting in major French Salons and had a one man show in New York City and one in Paris. After the Second World War broke out he immigrated to New York and became an American citizen and died there in 1999. Today he is in most of the major museums all over the world and many private collections as well.
This suite of seventeen original lithographs is limited 300 copies. The first 200 copies numbered from 1 to 200 are in color and the remaining 100 are in black and white and are numbered 201 to 300. The printing was supervised by the artist and printed on Rives vellum paper by the master lithograph printer Detruit in Paris. Each lithograph is numbered 185/200 and hand signed by the artist. The gallery has eight lithographs remaining from this suite. If purchased as a group it would include the original text from the suite which is hand signed by the artist.If you are interested in all eight lithographs please contact the gallery for discussion. They are all in excellent condition except for plate VIII which has a smaller margin other wise in good condition. Plate Number VII is of the character " Jenny".
